Flyer for the convention.

Back in late April me and some friends went to Motor City Nightmares, a Horror Expo and Film Festival in Novi, Michigan. This 3 day long event was a nexus for all things any true horror fan could ask for.  Admission price to the event ranged from 20-30 dollars a day depending on the day you attended. They had a marathon of films playing, including several obscure horror movies that you might not have seen before or even heard of.  I’m always looking to discover a new low budget slasher film reminiscent of the classics such as Friday the 13th and Dawn of the Dead.  The old film look and lighting of these of classic movies always fills me with nostalgia, its really the core of why something like this is so important too me. So having the opportunity to sit in and get a taste of something I haven’t seen before was really the main attraction for me. Hopefully before the next event I can pick up a copy of some of these films to add to my collection. The expo also had it’s fair share of celebrities, whom you could typically meet and greet and get autographs.  Of everyone who was there this time my favorite was easily Sid Haig most famous for playing Captain Spaulding!  Below is a video taken for the Devils Rejects panel. Staring Sid Haig, William Forsythe, Ken Foree and Lew Temple.

Motor City Nightmares was not strictly just about the movies either, this event brings together a crowd of Halloween enthusiasts, haunters, paranormal hunters, and horror fans as well. Also seeing that I did not attend this Expo by myself, my friends were also interested to see what the convention had to offer for people looking to get into the film industry. The show also boasts several round tables and workshops all weekend long for aspiring filmmakers and and production crew.  And conveniently they both have just started their own business and saw an opportunity to network with local directors who also attended the event.  I also learned that they will be doing a second convention September 16th-18th 2016.  Promising new guests and plenty more to scare your socks off! Make sure to visit their official website here for the latest up to date information.

In the coming months I also plan on doing a separate interview with my friends (Tori & Alix) who are Special FX makeup artists, to learn a little bit about what goes into capturing a filmmakers vision through the use of makeup and practical effects.  if you can’t wait for my interview and videos you can check out their website here.

Me being a huge fan of all things horror related, I felt like sharing some interesting photos of what was at the convention.
